Folks used to shy away from online dating thinking the only people they would meet were really shy or not very attractive or desirable.  Now just about everybody has friends who have successfully met normal desirable people online and many know couples who met online and married as well.  How about you, any stories to share with us here.  As always there are steps to take to safely meet quality people.

If you don't know your type, or what attributes you want, use a more public online dating site, in other words the larger sites, their membership is more vast and versatile.

Subscribe.  There are a broad range of prices for online dating sites.  Remember your budget.
Take at least one good picture.  Whether man or woman, you want to increase your chances for success.  Your profile with a good picture will get you many more e-mails.

Keep your profile simple, but don't be afraid to let your personality show.  Don't try to be anyone you are not, you won't be convincing.  Let go of your past for now, save this information for later when you have had the time to have fun dates first.

Ladies don't hesitate to be first to make contact, once you find those you wish to meet.  It likely will bring great results.

Look for reviews, perhaps someone else has some comments about someone you wish to contact if you date someone perhaps you should provide a review if you don't wish to keep that person for yourself.

Send an email for contact.  Be natural, talk, mention something from the person's profile, so they know you have read it.  Humor is always a wonderful ice breaker.

Next talk by phone, when comfortable.  I think you get to know one another better, and judge whether your chemistry will work in person.  Do not feel obligated to meet just because of a phone call.  If you are feeling uncomfortable or unattached, just tell them you will be busy awhile.  If you change your mind there is still an opening.

You must always be honest and say what you want.  Seems better to not waste your time with numerous contacts that won't go anywhere, a few right ones will take you farther and be much more gratifying.

Not everyone is honest be skeptical use your gut feel when deciding on a meeting. Use a public place, drive yourself and if you don't hit it off, leave, you might want to excuse yourself or not.

Remember dating whether online or in person should be fun, something like life.
