Hello all, Mama B here,
Anyone heard of Speed Dating? I just looked it up. Interesting concept. Originally it was trademarked by Aish HaTorah, as one word SpeedDating. It was a way for Jewish singles to meet and marry. Speed Dating as two words, is often used a general term for the same occasions.
Started in 1998, Beverly Hills, Pete's Cafe, by 2000 Speed Dating has really taken off. Speed Dating saves time as most people decide if they are compatible quickly, and first impressions are permanent.
Speed Dating goes like this: men and women meet at a mutual location with an organizer. You have several short dates of about 3 to 8 minutes. At the end of your date, a glass or bell is rung and you move to your next date. At the end of the event each person submits a list of the person or persons they want contact information given. If there is a match the information is given.
You mostly have to register in advance, pay with a credit card, sometimes walk-ins are allowed if a balance of sexes are needed. There are many Speed Dating events in the UK and US. They can be arranged by age, sexual preference, hobbies, religion.
