Dating Tips and Warnings


Avoiding common mistakes will save you a lot of time, money, energy and focus with online dating.  This helps you from quitting before you get results that you want and deserve.  Online dating works for some and not others.

When writing your profile avoid clinches"I'm looking for my soul mate."  What does that mean? "I'm looking for my best friend."  Don't you have any now? "If you want to know more about me, message me."   ???
"I'm not into playing games."  Everyone else is?

When describing your interests, hockey, darts, pool, monster  truck rallies, and hunting are mostly male interests.  It is okay to list them, but don't fantasize that many women are into these things, especially for a date.  Try to list things that may interest the women.

Make the first date on a week night, suggests that you have a life and are involved on the weekend.

Treat online dating like you would online shopping for anything.  Often there is more than one product available.  Don't be afraid to shop around.  If you are chatting with several people at one time, keep a file folder for each.  Record details, favorite foods, colors, music, this keeps you on tract with that individual.

Be realistic about the replies you'll get, usually they are fewer than you expect.  Every woman on a dating site has 5 males on a dating site.

You might want to avoid browsing in interstate or overseas profiles.  While tempting to get in touch with someone far away, it might also be a waste of time.  Of less you are willing and able to travel, or relocate.

Don't compromise your "must haves."    If you want a certain religion or ethnic, don't date someone just for now, nobody wants to be good enough for now, until you find what you want.

Decisive and pushy have a fine line.  Don't pressure anyone to do anything they don't feel comfortable with, this is a good way to fumble your chances.

Women are not the only ones to be careful when online dating.  Men need to be cautious as well
 
Don't tie your emotional well-being to a keyboard and monitor.  Be busy.  Desirable men are usually busy men.  Is your life active, healthy, interesting?

Avoid using message boards to complain if you aren't have results.  Don't argue that women don't appreciate a nice guy like you, it is old news, btdt stuff, (been there, done that), makes you look like a jerk.

Don't get hung up on the shopping and loose site that you are involved with real people, who have feelings, hopes, dreams, thoughts, desires, same as you.  At the very least, enjoy having coffee with some interesting people you otherwise would not have met.  If indeed you find none of these enjoyable, perhaps you should take a break from dating, online or otherwise, as it might be you are not appreciating other people for a time.
