If you have spent any time in childhood, you have learned that not everyone plays fair.  Remember that anyone can set up a dating profile, as personal or background checks are provided.  This would fall under your responsibility should you choose someone.  Don't be too eager to meet someone you have just met online.  There are many who use this format for a cover up for ulterior motives.  Often older people are pretending to be younger people.

How do you avoid such shocks, don't be in a hurry to meet, get to know the person, so you are convinced he/she isn't a fraud.  Don't give personal details, such as an address, do the talking on chat or mail.  Meet for the first time in a public place, so you can run if need be.  Most dating sites won't vouch for users, so get a background check for yourself.
